LBM 3.3: Iconic America

"Last challenge, we explored concepts behind minimalism.

This challenge takes it to the next level: What makes fashion iconic?

Your challenge is to analyze what is American iconic fashion. There are undercurrents: I'm looking for a specific type of "iconic." Marc Jacobs is often argued as iconic American, but in all honesty, he flips a new leaf each season and has extremely detailed work. What I'm looking for in this challenge is for you to retain your minimalist lexicon, but take it to the next level.

You must design a four look collection:
- Suit
- Trench
- Cocktail
- Gown"

DESCRIPTION:

ok, first thing first, yeay! i'm able to join LbMV at last! i couldn't make it for the last two challenges because of my last project of the year.
and now..

at first, when i saw the title "iconic america" i thought of the spice girls wearing tiny sequined dresses that were made for their concert in 1998 i think. they popularised the american flag as a fashion. hahaha...
but it was too predictable to use american flag as a theme.so i didn't use the idea.. well, more of i didnt want to.=p

as far as i know, american designers keep their design minimal and simple. but being minimal doesn't have to mean boring.. but classically trendy.
they pay attention to the cuts of the garments, if not just a main focus in each garment. usually bi-colours. (if fabrics have prints or textures, garments are usually kept as basic as possible)

so i wanted to make the collection effortless and iconic. i was inspired by a drapping i did using pleats, but didn't manage to use it the last time.[link] so i thought i might as well use it now..

let's just say my theme is monochormatic.using tones ranging from black, grey and white.
i think black and white is classic, infact, not only american, but it's a universal colour =D.
so i thought it would be great to use this factor as an iconic symbol.

women in america mostly have their own career at hand, which means they are business women that are independent. talking business and attending parties meant for business. they have to present themselves well to the clients...

Outfit 1:
-draped knife pleat bolero: silk 50%, cotton 50%.
-white shirt with pleats at CF: cotton 85%,elastane 15%
- high waisted skirt with a slit showing striped chiffon: cotton satin 100%, black and white striped silk chiffon 100%

Outfit 2:
-trench coat: cotton 45% ,silk 56% medium thick satin weave.
-turtle neck knits with ribbing detail at CF: wool 100%
-white slim cut pants- cotton satin 100%

Outfit 3:
- dress : silk satin 100%. ivory white shantung silk for the pleats.
- drapped: silk organza. 100%

Outfit 4:
-gown: silk100%.satin, chiffon. black shantung silk for pleats

and as u can see, each garment has a main focus and kept simple for the rest.

omg these designers are amazing! I especially love the first one. Really inspiring. (:

I just started trying out sketching not too long ago and I'm so jealous. I wish I could colour and draw like that, it's amazing.
